What is C4CI?

AzureL1 · L2C4 diagrams

C4CI turns your live Azure infrastructure into C4 architecture diagrams automatically, with drift detection and NIS2/DORA compliance.

Instead of manually drawing System Context (L1) and Container (L2) diagrams that drift from reality, C4CI discovers your resources from Azure Resource Graph and generates diagrams automatically. You get always up-to-date visualizations of your cloud architecture.

C4CI includes:

  • All 4 C4 levels (L1–L4) — System Context to Code
  • NIS2 and DORA compliance reporting (Enterprise+)
  • Kubernetes drill-down, drift detection, OpenTofu code generation

Whether you are an infrastructure lead documenting existing systems, an architect enforcing C4 standards, or a compliance team proving that documented architecture matches production, C4CI gives you live diagrams, drift reports, and exportable audit evidence in one place.

// The core loop

Five steps from
chaos to clarity

C4CI closes the full loop — C4 model authoring → live Azure discovery → drift detection → IaC code generation — in a single platform.

Connect
Grant Reader role to C4CI Managed Identity on your Azure subscription. No write access — ever.
See
Live L1 System Context and L2 Container diagrams generated directly from Azure Resource Graph.
Detect
Drift Detection compares your approved C4 model against live Azure state. Every resource. Every SKU change.
Approve
Review the delta. Approve a remediation plan. The platform never mutates infrastructure without a human step.

// Frequently asked questions

Common questions

How does C4CI connect to my Azure subscription?

C4CI uses a Managed Identity with Reader role on your Azure subscription. You grant access once via Azure Portal or CLI. C4CI never needs Contributor or write permissions — it only reads from Azure Resource Graph to discover resources and build diagrams. This keeps your infrastructure safe and aligns with least-privilege security.

What C4 diagram levels does C4CI support?

C4CI supports all four C4 levels: L1 System Context (your system and external users/systems), L2 Container (applications and data stores), L3 Component (internal structure of containers), and L4 Code (optional, Enterprise/PAYG). The Free tier includes L1 and L2. Pro adds L3 and Kubernetes drill-down. Enterprise and PAYG add L4 and Infrastructure-as-Diagram.

What is drift detection and why does it matter?

Drift detection compares your approved C4 architecture (the intended state) against what actually exists in Azure. When someone provisions a resource outside IaC or changes a SKU, C4CI flags it. Pro and above can see the delta and standard exports. Enterprise and PAYG add the reviewed remediation workflow and write path for governance-heavy teams. This helps prevent undocumented sprawl and supports audit preparation.

Is C4CI suitable for NIS2 and DORA compliance?

Yes. C4CI is designed to help teams prepare NIS2 and DORA evidence. You get proof that documented architecture matches live infrastructure, drift visibility, auditability, and exportable evidence on the higher tiers. The platform uses Reader-only access and immutable audit records. Enterprise and PAYG tiers include full compliance reporting.

What Azure permissions does C4CI need?

C4CI requires only the Reader role on your Azure subscription. No Contributor, Owner, or write permissions are needed. The platform reads from Azure Resource Graph to discover resources and build diagrams. You grant access once via Azure Portal or CLI.

How fast can I get my first diagram?

Most users get their first C4 diagram in under 2 minutes. After connecting an Azure subscription and running a scan, L1 and L2 diagrams appear in under 2 minutes for typical subscriptions. Larger environments may take a few minutes longer.

Is there a free tier?

Yes. C4CI offers a free tier forever: L1 System Context and L2 Container diagrams, 1 Azure subscription, basic metering, and SSO sign-in. No credit card required. Upgrade to Pro when you need L3, exports, or drift detection. Enterprise and PAYG add compliance reporting.
